What is it?
A creative and collaborative expedition to desert regions of the Mildura and Swan Hill regions of Victoria, to create a collection of film and photographic works in the style and spirit of the Burning Man festival.
Can I participate?
Positions are available for a variety of artists. All involved must be adults.
Dancers. There are positions for up to 4 dancers to participate. You need to be experienced at one of the sought styles: ballet, contemporary, or commercial; and you need to be confident creating fully-improvised works "on the spot", or semi-choroegraphed works which have been developed in the lead-up to the expedition, via on-line meetings and sharing of phone clips of your progress. You must be prepared to dance on a variety of surfaces including sand and rock (within reason!), and comfortable in a range of festival clothing.
Models. There are positions for up to 3 models to participate. You need to be experienced, and creative in your posing to reflect the space you are in. And you should be very comfortable in edgy festival attire.
Hair and make-up artists. There is an opportunity for up to two H&MU artists to join the project, who are keen to create some new and "out-there" looks for the models and dancers.
Videographer. There is an opportunity for a videographer who is keen to join the project and capture BTS footage.
Paid or unpaid?
This project will be set up as a collaboration between the participating artists. In a collaboration, everyone's ideas are heard and considered, and everyone can contribute to the overall artistic direction and outputs. On top of this, individually:
- Dancers will have relative freedom to improvise: reflecting the landscape in your dance will be admired!
- Models will have freedom to pose: experimentation will be applauded!
- H&MU artists will have the freedom to create stunning, exotic looks for the dancers and models: astonish the team please!
So it is unpaid work. However, everyone gets to share in the artistic outputs in which they appear, or to which they contributed. In short, this is a TFP project, albeit a big and ambitious one!
Logistics - travel and accommodation
As this project will be setup as a collaboration between those involved, there will be a need to share transport and accommodation costs.
If you have a reliable car and can drive one ore more participants in you car, great! Everyone will contribute to fuel costs.
We'll be picking budget (but not uncomfortable!) accommodation, as near as we can to the shoot site(s) to make early morning and late afternoon/evening shoots as easy as possible. Think shared motel rooms and/or on-site vans/cabins in caravan parks.
The total expected cost for fuel and accommodation will be around $180 per person.
How do I get involved?
It's easy to apply to be involved. Just fill in the online registration page and we'll be in touch!
